清く正しくうつくしく

The Takarazuka Music School, originally called Takarazuka Shokatai (Takarazuka Chorus), was established in July 1913, some nine months prior to the troupe’s first public performance. In 1939, Takarazuka Shokatai was divided into two organizations, the Takarazuka Music School and the Takarazuka Revue, and since then, all Takarazuka Revue members have been graduates of the Music School. During the 110 year period since its foundation, the School has produced approximately 5,000 performers for the Takarazuka stage. For young girls who dream of performing in the Revue, the Takarazuka Music School is the prerequisite gateway to future Takarazuka stardom.

During the School’s two-year program consisting of the Junior class (yoka) and the Senior class (honka), students thoroughly learn the basic skills and knowledge of music, dance, drama and other performing arts, as well as the essential rules and attitudes required for stage performers, in order to serve as a vital member of this powerful force creating the splendid “dream stage” that Takarazuka is noted for.

It is true that the basic training to acquire such a wide range of skills is physically tough and requires dedicated commitment.
However, strenuous and persistent efforts to complete this arduous training will eventually lead to blossoming success in a future career on the stage. Moreover, we at the Takarazuka Music School emphasize the importance of acquiring the decency and etiquette encapsulated in our school motto: “Purity, Honesty, Beauty” We are convinced that this emphasis will significantly help students develop their own sophisticated personalities even further, as women and as respected participants in society.
